A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE WITH HISTORY
The Mar de Arousa and Río Ulla Route is a special maritime and river itinerary which commemorates the arrival by sea of the body of the Apostle Santiago in Galicia after his martyrdom in Jerusalem approximately in the year 44.
The Mar de Arousa and Río Ulla Route commemorates this fact every year. And he does so following the last stages of that last apostolic journey.
The first ski lift was held in 1965, thanks to the drive and dedication of José Luis Sánchez-Agustino (1930-2010) and the creation of the Fundation Ruta Xacobea do Mar de Arousa e Ulla. This Foundation grants, together with the collaborating councils, the Traslatio Xacobea accreditation diploma to all the boats that complete this itinerary. Jacobean Route of the sea of Arousa and the river Ulla
On the banks and islets of the estuary, around those days in 1965, the placement of several cruisers in strategic locations also began. 17 works of stone art mark the route and constitute the only maritime Via Crucis in the world.
